Gillian Wearing

Gillian Wearing was commissioned to create the statue of suffragist leader Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square to mark the centenary of the Representation of the Peoples Act 1918, in which some women received the vote for the first time.

Gillian Wearing commissioned Naomi Korn Associates to carry rights research in the images of several other suffragettes which are reproduced in photographs on the base of the sculpture, providing a permanent record to these remarkable women.
