Alex has worked in intellectual property for over 13 years, most recently focusing on copyright and its impacts on the higher education sector. Alex is currently the Head of Copyright and Licensing within the University of Birmingham’s Library Services – a diverse role which includes leading all copyright guidance, policy and training activities relating to teaching, research, and other University business. He also ensures that any electronic licensing agreements procured by Library Services are fit for all purposes and uses that University lecturers, researchers and students might want to make of such resources.
Alex also has experience with data protection and other legislative areas as they apply to library activities within the HE sector.
Prior to working in HE Alex worked in private legal practice providing guidance on all aspects of IP law to clients of all sizes across a range of industries.
Alex holds an LLB (Hons) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
