Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is the custodian of six palaces and a rich collection of artefacts as well as a generator of digital assets with complex copyright and other rights issues. HRP procured a bespoke Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) to manage their digital assets and the associated rights issues, so that they would be able to benefit from the reuse of their digital assets in the future knowing what rights and permissions they had.

Naomi Korn Associates was commissioned to provide copyright expertise to help HRP develop rights and permissions fields and associated tools to address these challenges. This was supported by extensive staff training provided by Naomi Korn Associates to raise staff awareness about copyright and to encourage staff to use the new DAMS and supporting tools. This work has enabled HRP staff to develop competencies in rights management, upload new digital assets and their accompanying rights and permissions information on to the DAMS and ultimately enable HRP and the public to fully benefit from its investment in the creation of its digital assets.
