Call for Lightning Speakers at CILIP 2023 Conference
CILIP’s Annual Copyright Conference will be held online again this year on 16 May 2023. Naomi Korn Associates is proud to be running this event in partnership with CILIP.
CILIP’s Copyright Conference offers a unique opportunity for librarians, archivists and information professionals to update their knowledge and professional practice in this crucial area. Additionally, the conference will appeal to those who want to update their general copyright, licensing and publishing knowledge. Further to last year’s successful launch, we will once again be presenting the CILIP Copyright Champion award, a prestigious annual honour that recognises the achievements of a copyright champion in the sector. This award will be presented by Naomi Korn Associates.
This important event has long been the vehicle to discuss the sector’s big ideas, and enjoys a legacy of attracting well-established speakers and thought-leaders in the field of copyright. This year’s programme is still to be finalised, but we can to date confirm the following speakers:
- Dr Smita Kheria, Senior Lecturer, Intellectual Property Law, University of Edinburgh – opening keynote
- Margaret Haig, Head of Copyright Operations, Intellectual Property Office
- Matt Lambert, Head of Copyright, Policy & Assurance, British Library
- Naomi Korn, CEO, Naomi Korn Associates & PhD researcher
This year, we are once again putting a call out for speakers to join us in delivering lightening talks around the theme of copyright and/or licence management. In particular, we would like to hear from people who are new to conference speaking but who want to share new initiatives and/or best practice in copyright management and/or copyright licensing.
Lightning talks are a great way to introduce yourself at a conference and get delegates talking about a particular topic. They are also a great chance to experience being a speaker at a conference for the first time. You will have 5 minutes for your talk (with or without slides) and there will be opportunities for delegates to ask questions.
To apply to speak at the Copyright Conference, send an email titled “Lightning Talks application” to info@naomikorn.com and give a brief introduction of yourself, along with a summary of what you would like to speak about and why. Your application can be in writing, or as a video. Remember to give your name, job title, organisation, and contact details. Send your entries by 1 March 2023. Successful applicants will receive a complimentary delegate place for the day.
We particularly welcome applications from professionals who are underrepresented in the library, knowledge and information sector, including people from ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+ and working-class backgrounds; people with experience of disability and those who are neurodiverse; as well as people working at any level who have never spoken at a conference or event such as this before.
