Are you a De-facto Copyright Officer?

By Sean Waterman, Head of Intellectual Property

All staff involved in creating, using, commissioning, publishing or reproducing copyright works will need to be aware of the basic principles of copyright and how it relates to their roles. Within many organisations there can be a go-to person with a deeper knowledge of copyright who often provides guidance and promote compliance. In many cases, they can become their organisation’s de-facto copyright or IP Officer despite copyright not forming part of their job description. Queries from colleagues can take time to address. And the day job still needs to be done – whilst copyright is not going to go away.

Does this sound all too familiar to you? Perhaps this provides an opportunity for you to formally take ownership of copyright expertise in your organisation. Maybe it could provide an opportunity for you to change the direction of your career.

Want to have a deeper understanding of copyright and the role of a copyright or IP officer? Join our next Advanced Certificate in Copyright online course starting on September 22nd that explores copyright compliance and IP management at a higher level over four half day sessions.

Worth 12 CPD accredited hours from CPD UK, it’s ideal for experienced information management professionals and those who have completed our Intermediate Certificate (or equivalent). The course builds on existing knowledge to help you implement robust copyright policies, navigate complex legal frameworks, and align copyright management with your organisation’s strategic goals. To book, use the link above or contact our Operations Manager at info@naomikorn.com.
