Historic Royal Palaces

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) looks after six royal residences including the Tower of London, Kew Palace and Hampton Court Palace. They manage a rich collection of artefacts and associated digital assets through a bespoke Digital Asset Management System (DAM).

In 2016-18 Naomi Korn Associates provided copyright expertise to help HRP develop a system to record rights and permissions. The aim of the project was to introduce new processes to enable the reuse of digital assets in their exhibitions, educational programmes and collections research. Support also included training to raise staff awareness about copyright and increase their confidence in using the DAM and associated tools developed for the project.

As a result of the help provided by Naomi Korn Associates, HRP staff developed competencies in rights management and increased the number of digital assets with rights and permissions information included on the new DAM. Now Historic Royal Palaces is benefiting from its investment in digital asset management through increased asset use and securing Intellectual Property for the long term.
