Data Protection Outsourced Support: Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

When the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) required additional support with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), they turned to Naomi Korn Associates. The challenge was to ensure that all DPIAs were conducted effectively and in line with data protection regulations, while also providing tailored support to their in-house Data Protection Officer (DPO). LSTM conducts a wide range of international research and uses their DPIAs to manage risks and ensure compliance with GDPR and international privacy requirements.

Rather than simply providing generic guidance, we offered a hands-on approach to DPIA management, taking the lead on complex assessments while collaborating closely with the in-house DPO to strengthen their processes. Our team worked alongside LSTM’s internal stakeholders, offering expert advice on how to identify and mitigate data protection risks. We also supported the DPO with the management and review of ongoing DPIAs, ensuring compliance and efficiency in every stage of the process.

Through our specialised support with DPIAs and personalised mentoring of the in-house DPO, we helped LSTM maintain robust data protection practices while ensuring their continued compliance with legislation, all without disruption to their important research operations.
