Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI), The

The Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) is part of the Department for Communities and was set up to help communities to enjoy and realise the value of Northern Ireland’s historic environment.  

In 2022, HERoNI commissioned a copyright ‘health check’ from Naomi Korn Associates. The aim of this was to review existing policies, procedures and documentation to ensure that it was fit for purpose in terms of dealing with IP management, rights clearance, risk management and how to deal with rights issues when collections are accessioned, documented and published on-line.

The health check provided a copyright compliance assessment, evaluated the current state of play together with recommendations to help HERoNI plan, develop and  improve how it protects its copyright interests, optimises investment and ensures efficiency in terms of rights management.
