Creative Commons Licences: A Guide to Data Protection & Copyright

Understanding how copyright and data management rules apply to the resources published online is important. Heritage projects often deal with materials that are still in copyright and involve living people who have legal rights. This is particularly important for National Lottery Heritage funded projects, who are required to publish their digital outputs under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 Licence (CC BY 4.0).

Naomi Korn Associates were recently commissioned by the NLHF as part of their Digital Skills for Heritage initiative to create a toolkit to address these issues.

The toolkit explores issues surrounding Creative Commons licences, copyright and data protection. Developed with plenty of factsheets, templates, FAQs, examples and checklists, and translated into Welsh, it is intended to support the online publication of digital resources created by NLHF funded projects in particular. The team at Naomi Korn Associates have done a fantastic piece of work and we hope the Toolkit will be of immense benefit to all those who use it.
